I get the same dish every time, but it's consistently great: burrito de carne asada. It's really huge, so come hungry. They have two salsas: the mild is kind of tomatoey and a little too sweet for my tastes, but the hot is among the best of any Mexican restaurant I've ever visited. I go through at least three bowls every time I visit, it's that good. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is communication. The servers are all Mexican and sometimes don't understand you. Others are completely fluent. My strategy is to point to the menu as I order and they seem to get it. I hate to nitpick, but that really is my only complaint. Food has been consistently excellent.

Seated right away. Prompt service. Good food (I had the fajitas). Easy peasy. Downside for me were the 12 TV's/Sports bar atmosphere. Other than that, everything was great.

Just moved here recently and looking for mexican restaurant. This place is literally 3 minutes from us but I will probably not go back given the abundance of choices in the area. First....I placed order to go. Overall ambience was not good. Dated sportsbar meets Mexico. Young guy who took my order reeked of cologne. Although I spent 24 dollars I did not get chips and salsa until I asked for it. The guy says that you have to eat in to receive this benefit. After I said I was not paying for chips, he then graciously gave them to me this time he said. Then once home chimichanga was average at best. They forgot my tomatoes also. And half the chips were stale. I do not like to give bad reviews especially to local places but once again there are many other choices

I've never been disappointed, but then I always get the same thing... Cactus Special with chicken. It's delicious! Their queso is really good. I haven't had the best experience with dine-in, but never had a problem with carry-out. It's always done by the time we drive up Paoli Pike, 10-15 minutes tops. I'd recommend it. It is decent Mexican food, no better no worse than El Nopal or Los Aztecas in my opinion.

I was surprised by the large crowd chowing down on mediocre food. Everything was unimpressive and far from memorable. Well, that's not entirely true. I do recall having to flag down a waiter (any waiter) to send my overcooked steak back. Then, I had to flag down another to send my undercooked potato back. The only thing that they didn't get wrong was the salad. I made that myself at the miniature salad bar.

Watch your bill at the cash register, it was $34.14 and tell cashier checked out $38.14 plus I left a tip...there is no way to prove it because they keep ticket and give you recipient from credit card machine. food was okay but not great tonight. We have been regulars for years but has gone down. Won't be Going Back

You'll know that Yellow Cactus is a Mexican restaurant because they tell you so. Otherwise, it would be tough to notice as they don't follow the conventional setup. Rather than having traditional art, the place looks like a sports bar with several TV's, drink special banners and racing parafanalia. Yellow Cactus also shuns the typical warm paint hues that are indicative of the standard Tex-Mex found in the area, draping their joint in blacks, purples, yellows and oranges that give it more of a Halloween feel. Also, don't expect to hear Ranchera music as it has been thrown out in favor of late 90's mid-level rock. But, I swear that it is a Mexican restaurant. You can tell because they give you chips and salsa very quickly. The chips were very good and the salsa came in two flavors: good-with-a-lingering-heat and one-step-above-ketchup. The lingering heat salsa was quite good. Service is excellent! Our server was very attentive and helpful with his recommendations. The owner/manager (I didn't ask to see her resume) was very friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy chatting with the regulars. She stopped by our table to make sure that everything was going well. It was. The food was alright. I had the chicken fajitas (since it was Fajita Night!) which featured well seared onions and peppers alongside deliciously marinated chicken slices. Very good. However, my partner in crime's mole enchiladas were not as spectacular. The mole sauce lacked both sweetness and kick. I don't think that I could recommend making a trip up to the Knobs specifically to eat here, but it wasn't bad.

I was visiting back home and my parents suggested we pick up carryout here to take home after hanging out at SammyO's we enjoyed a very yummy margarita at the bar while waiting on our order, wow it was yummy and strong :) portions are huge and staff seem very nice their food was fresh and very authentic, I live in Vegas and yes I'm a foodie that is hard to impress prices seemed low and it was overall great experience!

We love this restaurant and eat there about three times a month, partially because it's so close, but really it's because they have a few items that are truly delicious. Carne Asada Tacos, Fish Tacos, and Tortilla Soup are some items worth checking out. The chicken wings are surprisingly good too, but the hot sauce is served on the side. I usually leave extremely full because I fill up on chips and salsa (which is great), but I suppose that's better than leaving hungry. The staff is really friendly too. Don't be afraid to practice some Spanish with them if you're up for it.

We went there because some people at work said that it was really good, but my experience was not so swell. My boyfriend ordered sweet tea to drink and it tasted like it was days old. Then we tried the salsa and from reading the reviews on here, I had high expectations, yet they were sunk because I was served tomato paste. Then as the night went on and we ordered our food it came out just as soon as we ordered it, which raised a very big red flag in my book. Everything seemed to taste fine through out the meal and they were big portions, but as I got home and was settling down I was starting to feel very queasy. And sure enough I was sick the rest of the night. To say the least we will never return to the Yellow Cactus again.

We love the yellow cactus! We have always had great service and wonderful food. If you leave there without sampling the fried bananas you'll hate yourself later!!

I have eaten here twice. The first time I ate the food, it was carry out. I swore I would never eat here again. I didn't like it at all. However, last weekend we decided to get out and my fiancé suggested we go here and try again. I was hesitant but said ok. I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised. It's way better when you go in and eat than carry out. Our waiter was great, it had a great atmosphere, my 2 1/2 year old son was accepted like anyone else and loved it there too. I would definitely eat here again.

My family loves this place. We eat here two or three times a month. The quesadilla is where it's at. I love their queso and salsa. The staff is friendly. Great place to go with groups. I recently discovered, to my surprise, their wings are also VERY good. I love Yellow Cactus!

First and foremost, they have dollar domestic draft beer. OK, now that we have that covered.... The Yellow Cactus has everything you can ask for: great food, drinks, salsa, TVs, full bar, location, prices, and a staff that is out of this world. Every time I go I find something else I love. The food never gets old because they have a really big menu with a lot of variety. It is a big place with plenty of tables; so there is rarely a wait, even during busy times. They have a loyal following of regulars that you can find just about every night of the week. One trip to The Yellow Cactus and you'll know why.

This is our Monday night spot: with $.98 margaritas and great food; helpful staff; kid friendly atmosphere with free Popsicles included with every kids meal; it's our favorite family restaurant.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
